On April 10, USTP Cagayan de Oro held its 82nd graduation ceremony for almost 2500 students, the Class of 2018-2019, at the Limketkai Center.
This year’s graduation theme was ‘Charting the Path of Excellence Towards a Discovery and Innovation University’. The theme defines the caliber of the University’s graduates, which are young people with an innovative outlook and are trained to be useful members of the emerging technological sectors especially in Mindanao. The commencement exercises were divided into two sessions: the morning session for senior high school and CSTE graduates, and the afternoon session for graduates of CITC, CEA, CSM and CT.

Yadao-Sison, MNSA, PhD, CESE congratulated the students and told them that the graduation was the culmination of their challenges during their college years, but ultimately a rewarding journey. Atty. Yadao-Sison then reminded the graduates that, “In life, you must have a purpose. When you know your calling or when you have found your niche, when a great job comes your way, just seize the moment. Give it all you’ve got: mentally, physically and sometimes financially. In time, all the good that you do will pay off. So graduates, I tell you, please avoid the ‘other path’.”
Dr. Aldaba, Undersecretary, Competitiveness and Innovation Group, DTI, gives an inspirational message to graduates Guest speaker Dr. Rafaelita M. Aldaba from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), who was present during the afternoon, had the opportunity to talk to five student leaders, including Supreme Student Council (SSC) President Anouck Josh Tan, on the evening prior to the graduation ceremony. It was through that sharing that she gained insight into the thoughts, dreams, plans and fears of the millenials. Dr. Aldaba addressed the graduates by saying, “I am truly impressed by your optimistic outlook in life, your confidence and readiness, awareness to social issues both at a national and regional level, openness to learn, and passion to succeed and contribute to solving society’s problems.” She also assured students that they have been prepared enough by the University, and that many industries are waiting for them already. “Whichever [field] you decide, I believe the USTP has prepared all of you to be productive members of society.”
