Policies & Guidelines

A. Authorized Users

  1. MUST Students: Undergraduate and graduate students.
  2. MUST Employees,  Administration, Faculty and Staff.
  3. Students enrolled in the Short-Term courses can avail of the library collection for room use only. However, they can borrow books for overnight/home reading use if their respective Shop Instructors will act as guarantors.
  4. Alumni and outside researchers who are enrolled in other schools and/or employed in the private or government offices has to present their valid ID, and referral letter from their librarian or administrators. They can avail of the library collection for "room use only" materials preferably in the morning.
  5. Part-time lecturers are required to present a certification from their respective Deans before their library accounts will be activated.

B. School ID and School Uniform

    The School ID  is a "PASS" to avail of the Library Services. The School ID is non-transferable. Any violation thereof means suspension of the library privileges for both parties concerned. The ID should always be presented upon entering the library premises, borrowing of library resources and internet facility.
    Students must be in complete school uniform upon entering the library except on Wednesdays(Wash Day).

C. Borrowing Privileges

  1. A student is entitled to borrow 2 or 3 books at a time. However, there are restrictions to books in great demand.
  2. A single copy of RESERVE books, FILIPINIANA materials and books labelled or stamped "ROOM USE ONLY" cannot be borrowed for overnight use.
  3. Books with one (1) copy in the Stack Area which are not in demand can be borrowed for overnight use or home reading use.
  4. General references, specialized reference materials or rare books are for "ROOM USE ONLY."
  5. Home reading books can be borrowed for one (1) week and can be renewed for another week, if it is not in demand. 
  6. Magazines/journals/newspapers are to be read only in the Library particularly in the Reserved area for these materials.
  7. Research materials such as seminar papers, theses and dissertations are for room use only.

D. Issuance and Returning of Books

  1. Books with several  copies at the Circulation Stack Area may be borrowed for a period of one(1) week and may be renewed for another week if no one else reserved the book. These are issued from 8:30 - 5:30 pm.
  2. Reserved Books are issued to students for one hour and is available for inside reading only. Extension for additional hours may be granted unless there is a prior demand from another user. However, if there are several copies of these books, it can be borrowed for overnight use. Issuance is from 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm and must be returned the following day between 8:30-10:00 am.
  3. Photocopying Issuance for Reference books like encyclopedia, dictionaries, atlases and others is from 8:30 am to 5:30pm.

E. Fines and Penalties

  1. Fines are charged on books not returned on due date or time.
  2. A student who deliberately keeps a reserved book or reference book that is in demand will be fined or his/her library privileges will be suspended for two (2) weeks.
  3. Damaged or lost books must be reported at once. Replacement of the materials plus the processing cost shall be paid with additional overdue fines if not reported at once.
  4. A fine of one peso (Php 1.00) per day is charged on books/materials not returned on due date or time on books borrowed for a period of one (1) week.
  5. A fine of one peso (Php 1.00) per hour is charged on books/materials not returned on due date or time on books borrowed for overnight use and photocopying purposes.

F. Mutilation/Vandalism/Theft

  1. Deliberate markings, mutilating or defacing library collection/property will mean suspension or loss of library privileges.
  2. Any unauthorized withdrawal of library collection/property is considered theft and such deliberate act will mean a recommendation for suspension or withdrawal.
  3. Books borrowed must be checked by the borrower for missing or mutilation of pages. Otherwise, any mutilation/damage done to the library materials shall be borne by the borrower. A rebinding fee shall be charged to the borrower for those materials that can still be repaired. Materials beyond repair must be paid based on the replacement value of the book or library materials.

G. Library Decorum

  1. Library users are expected to respect the needs of other library users by maintaining a quiet and scholarly atmosphere in the library.
  2. Loud talking, smoking or eating in the library is prohibited.
  3. Library users must return promptly all library materials when it is due in order to give other users a fair chance of utilizing the library services.

H. Exit Control

       The Library reserves the right to inspect things, bags, and carry-in items brought inside the library as the patrons leave the library. This is to ensure that the library materials are properly charged out.
