The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – Cagayan de Oro will host an activity dubbed as Visiting Professors Activity on August 13-17, 2019. VPA is one of the activities under the Innovation for Social Impact Partnership (ISIP) project co-implemented by the United Nations Development Programme in the Philippines (UNDP Philippines) and PhilDev Foundation (PhilDev) with generous support from the Australian Embassy in the Philippines.
The chief purpose of the activity is to provide the faculty concerned with the best practices in Technopreneurship teaching with social impact and incubator management.
VPA highlights certain key activities such as session on NSF I-Corps, talk on UC Berkley-CDO’s best practices in Technopreneuership/Social Entrepreneurship course, focus group discussion with Oro Chamber of Commerce, workshop on incubation program and management
Part of the whole VPA is the conduct of Investment Forum which will be held at Mallberry Suites on the third day. The forum brings in together key decision-makers, investors and entrepreneurs/startups in the region. It allows exchange of ideas in developing good relationship among investors and entrepreneurs and bridging the investment gap that exists in the startup ecosystem in Mindanao.
The Investment Forum includes talk by the visiting professor and another by a successful entrepreneur turned investor of the Spring Valley, testimonials of a successful Filipino tech startup together with its investors, and discussion on networking.
This year’s visiting professor is Eugene Noh, Progam Director of the Bay Area National Science Foundation Innovation-Corps (NSF I-Corps) which provides Lean LaunchPad training for academic researchers and startups with universities such as UC Berkeley, UC San Francisco, and Stanford University.
As a professor, Noh will share his expertise on entrepreneurship and tech startup investment that he has earned in Silicon Valley – USA’s biggest technology hub where many of the world’s leading high-tech corporations and tons of innovative technology companies are sited.
His talk on UC Berkley’s best practices in technopreneurship/social entrepreneurship course will be participated in by deans, chairs, entrepreneurship faculty of USTP-CDO as well as those from the cohort universities – Capitol University, Xavier University, COC-Phinma, Central Mindanao University, Liceo de Cagayan University, Mindanao State Univesity-Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindanao University, La Salle University-Ozamiz, and St. Peter’s College.
