On May 29 to 31, 2019, the USTP – CDO partnered with USAID Science, Technology, Research and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) and RTI International to address the need for industry-academe collaboration in order to generate innovations and solutions that may address pressing societal problems.
In the Philippines, there is limited interaction between the industry and the academe. However, for the country to remain competitive in terms of innovation, USAID STRIDE realizes that both members of the academe and entrepreneurs would have to work together. There are many viable businesses in the nation that have the potential; however, they require assistance from experts who can provide support in terms of research and development.
The Philippines currently ranks 73rd in the Global Innovation Index (GII) out of 126 economies. USTP’s partnership with USAID STRIDE and RTI to strengthen innovative undertakings between industries and academe experts could help boost the country’s rank in the GII.
The Ideation Workshop ran for three days, with day one devoted for the ideation briefing, day two for the ideation workshop proper, and day three for the writeshop. All of the activities were held at the USTP CDO Boardroom. Facilitating the workshop were Eric Christian Estolatan, STRIDE Convergence Manager, Adrienne Louise Cacho, STRIDE Convergence Coordinator, and Samantha Uichico, STRIDE Linkages Manager, and Jacinto Asuncion, Jr., UPSCALE Technology Business Incubator Exective Director.
